New Job: New Responsibilities: Same Smart Ass

OK. Time for some shameless plugging. I'm officially working full time at Puccini's (bar mgr/front of house mgr. and bartender). Come see me!! I'm bartending tonight, Thurs, and Friday 5 to close (11). Awesome custom made pizzas, calzones, pasta, salads, etc. You know Lafayette, you've been there. AWESOME beer selection: New Castle, Sierra, Turbo Dog, People's Stout, 312, Bel's 2 Hearted, Blue Moon,Pilsner Urquel, Stella, Warsteiner,Sam Adams, tons of domestics, and a full bar. Amazing specials, tons of flatscreens, and, one experienced smart ass waiting to serve you.
This new job is exciting and will be challenging over time. For you locals who've been to Puccini's, then you know it has a beautiful "looking " bar. Alot of care was put into the design, the products, etc. Now, I've been told, they're hoping to make it more of a bar that stands on it's own, as well as a place to have a drink while waiting for your table/order. That's where I come in. I'm just getting my feet wet, but, I have MANY new things I'm looking forward to trying. I am also open to suggestions of what you'd like in a bar....excluding free drinks, sorry. Let me know.

Thanks, and hope to see you on the other side....

A Good Weekend: Friday evening, January 8 thru Sunday bedtime 9pm

Haven't blogged in awhile...sorry bout that. I like it, I just seem to get stuck in the satisfaction of a couple of sentences for an update in hopes of making a FB friend chuckle. When I thought of my weekend and what would make a good "Well, it's Monday again...I miss the weekend.....where'd Sunday go??" post. I had many that seemed worthy. So, here is my good weekend in Cliff notes form:
1- finished "training" on my new job....feelin' confident....ready for upcoming challenges....working the floor tonight and Tuesday...and bartending Wednesday thru Friday 5 to close on the bar. I'm excited.
2- prepared Rowan for her first day at a new school....Earhart....AND, prepared her as well for her first day of all day school// she was half days before today. She's VERY excited about lunch. She put alot of thought and decision making faces into choosing her lunch for the day. (cheeseburger and fries won over salad or veggies and peanut butter. Duh!) Rowan's last words before getting in the car for school?? (excitedly) "I have to find a new boyfriend!!".....poor Luke from Edgelea Elementary. Rowan never even gave him a chance. Poor guy. BUT.......bottom line......she's in a great school, cool teacher, she's excited and ready, MUCH smaller class (15 kids vs 25), still very close to home, and, lots of cute boys for the pickin....... For Ro, pervs! Good start!
3- had a fun evening of great homemade food, wine, beer, conversation, Trivial Pursuit, music, and ADULT conversation with the wife, the X's, and Pappy. I made cashew chicken in the Wok. Dlish... Susan made homemade coconut creme pie and a chocolate pie. (Insert Homer drooling sound). Chinese food was dericious. Laughed too hard at a joke from my friend Rick Mummy. I gotta share....Did you know that China now has a television show about lesbians on their HBO?? Yeah, it's called "The "R" Word. If I'm offending, sorry....but it made me spit a water chesnut. .... Kids played upstairs all night and it went smoothly....give or take thinking one kid might have broken their foot. Oh yeah, and thanks to my buddy Chris X who offered me some weird smellin' Greek liqueur all night. I never caved. I don't know, something about being handed a shot glass of smelly, dirty brown colored liquor with two small red grapes in it saying in slurred speech,"Is called '2 Nuts in a Bucket'.....try it! Is good!,........doesn't make me say "Oh yum!! Hand it over!!"Love ya Chris X. Other than that, smooth. Recap: Relaxing, fun, funny, tasty, laughable night out with the Mrs. and friends.
4- We DEholidayed the house. I always feel pouty when I have to do this task. I think it's the little boy in me figuratively falling to the floor kicking and screaming "I DON'T WANT CWISSMUS TO GO!!!!" I know there's alot of HHs out there....(Holiday Haters)...but, when you're lucky enough to have the family I do, it makes a difference. I never enjoyed Christmas much as an adult until I met Erica. She's made holidays fun and warm for me again. That, and throw in the greatest, most appreciative, lovable kid in the world, and, well......we like our Xmas times. I do still, however, have the little yard Xmas tree still out and lit. It just looks so good in the snow. Oh! and for the record, Erica gets the big pat on the butt for making the living room look better than it ever has! Thanks pookie!!! I love you!
5- Sunday night....the inlaws had us over for Beatlesopoly and a pot of ham and beans with cornbread. They were delicious, and, are still working nicely today...just sayin'. Watched one HECK of a football game between the Packers and the Cardinals. Wow!! What an ending!! Nice, chill Sunday night visit......
6- rented and watched "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" with Ro and the Mrs.....3 outta 4 stars. Lots of good voices and just weird enough to hold adults attention as well as kids. Based on the book....though I had never heard of it. Bill Hader (main character in movie) is a talented guy who I predict will be the next big comedy star when he finishes his stay on SNL.....VERY versatile.
7- Life is learning from our mistakes. I will never eat sushi from a grocery store again. That is all.
8- December 26th: the wife gave me my favorite Christmas gift....an 8 DVD box set of Marx Brothers movies. This weekend, I not only finally got to watch one, but, with a mesmerized Rowan. She and I had a slumber party Saturday night (meaning, we slept in the living room on the couch and watched a late night movie in our pjs) and watched the Marx's "At the Circus". It was sooooooo cool hearing her laugh at Groucho, Chico, and Harpos antics. I can't wait to show her "A Night at the Opera". ( their best, imo)........Again, thanks honey!
9- Went to DT Kirbys Sunday to watch a little football and have a beer. Stayed later than I thought.....sorry dear. Towards the end of my visit, got interviewed by Channel 18 News about my thoughts on "football in Indiana vs. basketball" in regards to popularity, and, "thoughts of the Superbowl preparations for Indianapolis in 2012".....My interview was probably not the most intellectual words to ever come out of my mouth, but,  if you see it air sometime the weekend prior to Superbowl, look for a guy with a beard, wearing a red/orange knit mohawk winter hat , holding a Coors Light (yeah, I know), and saying into the camera "Colts fever!!!".........that's me. My wife is soooooo proud.
10- Rowan read her first book by herself!!.....every word!!!! She pointed to each word with her finger and read the whole thing to us. It was really cool. She read "Maisie Makes Lemonade". Her interpretation really turned an other wise simple story into a real page turner. Go Ro!!!!!!!!!!!!

11- Sunday evening....relaxed, got Ro's backpack and stuff ready for the big first day, let her play in her room for a bit, and, got to bed kinda early. Sidenote: when I say Rowan "played" for a bit, I really mean she spent nearly 45 minutes in her room repeatedly inflating a Whoopie Cushion, sitting on it, and laughing every time. She must get this kind of behavior from her mother. :) Soon thereafter, Rowan fell asleep on me while we watched a bit of the old Disney film, "Charlie the Lonesome Cougar".  Grrrr...turned into.....zzzzzzzz......quickly.

And that,........was a great weekend. Let's do it again next week!!Peace family and friends.
